Who We Are

We are active and involved citizens of Shields Township who want to support the democratic process in our communities. We are men and women who represent all corners of Shields, working together to provide resources for our fellow Democratic and independent voters. We believe in the saying that "all politics is local," and we want to make a difference in the quality of candidates who run for public office.

Until now, Shields Township has been the only township in Lake County without a Democratic organization. It's high time to recognize and support the growing contingent of Democratic and independent voters in Shields.

Our Mission Statement

The Shields Democratic Committee represents concerned residents of Shields Township, including portions of Lake Forest, North Chicago, Knollwood, and all of Lake Bluff. We aim to recognize and address issues affecting our communities. As the voice of Democrats and independent voters, this grassroots organization supports and strengthens governmental representation and is dedicated to engaging a diverse citizenry in new ways of working together. The committee works closely with local, county, and statewide elected officials to elevate voter turnout, to keep residents informed about current issues vital to township growth, and to aid in the selection and election of Democratic candidates.

Objectives

1. The Shields Democrats will identify, energetically support, and elect candidates who will provide a voice to the emerging progressive majority in Shields township. This support will include coordinating election efforts with other Democratic and independent organizations.
2. As part of our election efforts, we will recruit and train new precinct committeewomen and men. In addition, we will bring Shields' diverse communities closer together by making the nuts and bolts of political organizing gratifying and enjoyable while we seek to inform citizens of critical issues that affect us all.
3. It is our ultimate goal to unify the voters from all parts of Shields Township who passionately want their government at all levels to address relevant issues of economic and social justice. We will facilitate communication about worthwhile causes to all Shields Township citizens.
