Gearing Up for the 2008 Elections

On Saturday, June 16, 2007, Shields Democrats and Independents hosted a candidate forum to help introduce residents to candidates and to the process in advance of the 2008 election. We were joined by David Weinstein, a candidate for Circuit Judge in Lake County; IL Representatives Eddie Washington and Karen May, both running for reelection; and Dan Seals, who has just announced his candidacy for U.S. Congress from the Tenth District. We also heard from representatives for presidential candidates Barack Obama and Bill Richardson. All candidates were welcomed to come, and we were delighted that so many did so early in the campaign. We promise to do this type of event again closer to the primary. Speaking of which...

The Illinois Primary will be held February 5th rather than in March, which makes our efforts now all the more important. We will try to bring you event information as we are made aware of it. We are also working on building the Shields network and we invite you to join us. Our next meeting will be in July; watch this web site for details
